If you are looking to improve your confidence as a musician while enhancing your skills, I'd love to be your coach. I offer vocal, keyboard, guitar and performance coaching and instruction in addition to group classes within the community. My approach is different than what you would find within a typical music lesson. Think less "by the book" and more "out of the box!" I will challenge you to expand your comfort zone and get as creative as possible with your practice. As a client of mine, you can expect a creative approach to learning that includes:
I welcome the opportunity to work with you and accept musicians of all ages and abilities. Connect with me via e-mail at trina@harmonystation.ca to arrange for an online meet and greet consultation. I look forward to meeting you virtually and in person.
Voice: I take a wholistic approach to guiding my students towards finding their own musical path and authentic voice. As a vocal coach, I teach the technical aspects of using one’s voice as an instrument, including breath control, body awareness, intonation, articulation, and ear training.
I've worked as a singer-songwriter and touring musician, releasing three original albums and performing in festivals, folk clubs and venues across Western Canada. As a result of these experiences, I emphasize creative expression and vocal freedom in my sessions with students, in addition to stage presence and performance skills.
Piano: I started learning the piano at the age of four and continued my studies to a university level of playing. Admittedly, it was a struggle at times for me to embrace the "joy" of the piano within a very structured approach. Therefore, as a teacher, I incorporate elements of chording, ear-training and improvising into my teaching sessions along with the traditional skills of reading musical notation, rhythm, dynamics and learning finer dexterity. I teach beginner to intermediate piano and keyboard lessons.
Guitar: Are you interested in learning basic techniques of strumming the six-string? I've been playing guitar for over twenty years and it brings me joy to share my tricks and techniques with beginner students who have a desire to learn this instrument. I touch on classical techniques and note-reading, but focus mainly on chording, rhythmic strumming and skills that a "campfire guitarist" would find to be practical and fun.
Early Childhood Music Classes: When I work with young children in group settings, I incorporate singing, movement, jamming rhythmically with percussion instruments and other expressive elements of music. I have worked with pre-school and elementary aged student in all sorts of settings, including pre-schools, daycares, hospitals, camps and private groups.
